1 frozen pie shell (cook it before filling it, cook at 375 degrees for 15 minutes so the bottom crust is cooked first, otherwise it will be soggy at the end)
1 package of ground beef/or ground turkey
1 8 oz package of cheese
After the pie shell is baked alone for the 15 minutes, sprinkle 1/2 of the bag of cheese on the bottom of pie shell, set aside for now.
Now, this is the healthy part. When ever I make hamburger or ground beef, its the bestOpportunity to add hidden veggies that your family will never know will be there lol, but actually give it a great taste, makes it healthier, and cuts down on any salt you would need to use (helping to lower blood pressure and cholesterol). I got the idea from an old friend, who said in middle east thats how they make their meats, they mix it with a bunch of veggies, like onions, scallions, etc, and cook with with, helps with digestion as well. So, thats why you will see me do this quite a bit.
a bunch of spinach
1 large tomato
3 cloves of fresh garlic (dont use garlic salt, its NOT the same and I personally dont like the flavor)
1 large carrot
1 large bell pepper (any color)
some green onions
**Dont be afraid to use other veggies you have in your fridge either.
Mix in the food processor or blender, making it into a sauce to pour in with the ground beef or turkey so you are cooking it in together. It cooks right into the meat. Ok, it take a little bit longer to cook the meat with the veggie mixture, but, just keep cooking it until all the sauce is cooked into the meat as much a possible. You really dont need much salt at all, I used a tiny bit of seasoning salt. You could go without any.
Once cooked, pour the meat mixture into the pie crust, over the cheese, then sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top. Cook at 375 degrees for 20 minutes or so, until the cheese is melted and the it looks crispy. The meat will look browner after this has baked and you wont be able to see the veggies, your family wont know unless you tell them
