I went in to get my last 4 trays this week to find that the last trays were not needed. My Ortho took a look and decided that I could go on to the 'Refinement Process now. There are 3 teeth in particular that need a little more work. He asked me if I wanted to finish or just stop now. Being I paid $$ for this lol, so of course I decided to finish and go to the "Refinement Process and take on the last 10 Trays he estimated I would need to finish. He said that I would change trays between 3-4 days now and it would go by faster and I would still use the Ortho Accel for the 20 minutes a night.
The Refinement Process, how it worked: Its like starting all over again. They had to remove all 15 or so of my attachments, sanding them down. I was surprised that they didn't catch any of the small plastic powder residual as they sanded it all down, it just fell all around and in my mouth. It was super dry and powdery, but, it didn't take as long as I thought to sand them all off. Then, they had to re-take all the pictures of my teeth again to create me new trays for the end. They also re-measured between some of my front teeth.
They said I was now going to take a 'break for a month while the new trays are being created. I was to keep my current tray and only wear it at bedtime. I was so excited for that idea. Its a funny thing though, because my jaws really got used to having the trays in, so now when I don't have them in for longer periods of time my jaws feel a bit sore, like they need them in. Its very weird. But, all in all, its such a FREEING Feeling to have this break. I can talk on the phone and not sound weird again... lol and can not worry all day about pushing myself to get my teeth brushed, flossed, and mouth washed to get my trays back in. It did become something that I would feel guilty about if I wasn't getting them in sooner... I find I am still thinking about it every day.
So, I'll update with my 'Refinement Visit the first week of October, and let you all know how many trays I got and the time I have left. I'm sooo excited to be completely done. I am so happy that I did this. It makes a huge difference in how I view my smile now. My daughter wanted me to wear lipstick again, so this is happening now. lol
